Hi! I do agree with your observation about vocational rehab counseling as a dead or dying field. I should know. I graduated with an MS in Rehab Counseling degree in 1996 and have now switched happily to mental health counseling. I used to have a CRC and had worked as a vocational rehab counselor for the state of NV vocational rehabilitation agency and the US Department of Veterans Affairs Vocational and Rehabilitation Office. However, over time, I realized that having a CRC really did not open many doors for me. The counseling degree, however, was the one that gave me many opportunities to branch out in other occupations within the disability field, such as case management, mental health counseling, child welfare and child and family services. From my experience, the narrow focus of vocational rehabilitation is its own worst enemy. Rehabilitation can be most effective only when addressed from multiple domains of the person’s life and with supports from the community. At this time, my National Certified Counselor (NCC) credential has been more helpful to me than my CRC. I am currently in the process of obtaining licensure in clinical professional counseling.

Can I just say that of a relief to find an individual who actually knows exactly what theyre talking about on the net.
